This class is a subclass of single-channel-simple-stream and describes
streams whose single workspace is really the final source or
destination object. It is similar to string-stream, but different in the
sense that it always works with workspaces that are octet-oriented.
Subclasses of this class include mapped-file-simple-stream, buffer-input-simple-stream, and
buffer-output-simple-stream
